About

Personal Profile

Born in 1970 in the rural region of Twente, the Netherlands, Mart developed an early fascination with form, space, and structure. This curiosity led him to the ArtEZ Academy of Fine Arts, where he graduated in 1994 as an architectural and furniture designer. His education laid a solid foundation in both the conceptual and practical aspects of spatial design.

Following his graduation, he gained experience at several architectural firms, where he honed his skills and deepened his understanding of the built environment. Over time, he developed a distinct personal vision, rooted in both artistic expression and architectural discipline.

Now working independently from a small village in the Betuwe, Mart operates at the intersection of art and architecture. His work spans various scales and disciplines, from interior design projects to furniture pieces and architectural studies. Regardless of medium or context, his creations are consistently characterized by a geometric clarity and a pragmatic, honest use of materials.

His visual language is both graphic and architectural, often abstract, but always rooted in spatial awareness. Each design explores the relationship between form and function, void and volume, idea and execution. While his aesthetic may appear minimal, it reveals a complexity in structure and intention upon closer examination.

The essence of his work lies in its sincerity. There is no embellishment for the sake of aesthetics: every line, plane, and junction serves a purpose. His approach is one of reduction and precision, favoring clarity over decoration.

Through this disciplined yet poetic vision, Mart continues to explore the boundaries between art and architecture, creating work that is not only visually compelling but also deeply spatial and thoughtfully conceived.
